| The Internet is becoming a very scary place.
Each time you log on, you have no idea who is
watching what you do and where you go! Spyware
is everywhere! Once accepted into your computer,
it can send out information about what sites you
visit, how long you spend on each page you look
at, complete information about the specifications
of the computer you are using, even what site
you go to after leaving the present one. Some
Spyware is capable of recording personal information
about yourself, including banking info, where
you have accounts, the number of the account;
even what the CD keys are for the software installed
on your computer. No one is safe, and you must
be extremely vigilant in protecting yourself from
this violation of your privacy! We constantly
remind our customers of these dangers. Do not
download any software unless you are absolutely
certain of it's source. The most innocent of
programs can hide "malware". (That's
malicious software!) And most anti-virus/ad-blocker/spyware
programs will not pick them up. Essentially
what happens is this; you install some type
of software that seems harmless enough, that
gets it past your regular protection. The first
time you go on-line after installing, it upgrades
itself, with or without your knowledge. Sometimes
they will even tell you an upgrade is available
and ask if you want to do the upgrade, and,
of course, it's only natural to want that latest
version of any software, particularly if it's
free. It then installs the malicious code to
collect information about you, and your machine.
Do yourself a big favor, get a good anti-virus
program and keep it up to date. (Be aware that
these programs require a subscription after
the first year of usage. This fee is usually
around $20 per year. This fee pays for availability
to the latest virus definitions and updates
for your software.) If the program you select
does not have ad-blocker capability, get a good
ad-blocker/spyware program as well. Keep your
machine protected behind a firewall that you
can manually set the Internet access permissions
for software installed on your machine. The
moment you get off line, run a scan of your
system. No software is perfect. They may not
keep them out at first, but they can remove
them before any damage can be done. Do not allow
any program internet access unless you are certain
about what it is going to do when permission
is granted.
